In preoperative patients, psychological responses (anxiety) are one of the most common responses. In order to reduce anxiety, actions that can be taken through non-pharmacological therapy, in the form of Benson relaxation techniques and five-finger grip techniques. The aim is to determine the effectiveness of Benson relaxation techniques and five-finger grip techniques on the level of anxiety of preoperative patients at the Bekasi Regency Hospital. This research uses the Quasi-Experiment method with pre-test and post-test designs, without control group design, sampling using purposive sampling techniques, with the Wilcoxon test. The population of 82 patients, divided into 2 treatment groups, namely 41 patients with Benson relaxation techniques and 41 patients with five- finger grip therapy. The negative ranks value on the Mean Rank is 9.50 and the Sum Rank is 171.00. There was a decrease in score from Pre-Test to Post-Test on the Benson relaxation technique. While the negative ranks score on the Mean Rank with a value of 16.00 and Sum Rank of 496.00. There was a decrease in scores from Pre-Test to Post-Test in the five-finger grip technique. Benson relaxation and the five-finger grip technique are methods that can reduce anxiety, have no side effects, are cost-effective, affordable and easy to apply in society.
