Pengaruh Aktivitas Mengunyah Permen Karet Rendah Gula Terhadap Rasa Haus dan Implikasinya Selama Interdialisis Pada Pasien Yang Menjalankan Hemodialisa di RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Jakarta
Abstract: Hemodialysis is a correct intervention to replace kidney performance
though it must be subjected to limitation of liquid supply which may result in most
patients complaining of dry mouth. One of methods to treat the dry mouth is by
chewing low calorie gum to stimulate saliva secretion. This study aims to identity
the effect of activity after chewing low calorie gum to the thirsty and its
implication during the interdialysis in patients undergoing hemodyalisis at
RSPAD Gatot Subroto Jakarta. Type of this study is quasi experimental with
research design of non equivalent control group pre test – post test in
intervention group of low calorie gum chewing and control group. Sampling
method is by purposive sampling. Total number of samples is 121 respondents
with intervention group of 89 respondents and control group of 32 respondents.
Method analysis of data with t-test and multiple linear regression. Results of the
study by independent t-test show the meaningful difference of the thirsty of the
intervention group to control group (p=0,001<0,005). Based on the multiple
linear regression test shows that the chewing low calorie gum effect to the thirsty
of 0.212 times compared to not chewing gum, although not significant (p=0,460).
Chewing gum has effect to IDWG (p=0,000), having effect to the quantity of urine
(p=0,013), having affect to the quantity of drinking (p=0,011). This study can be
used by nurses in an independent intervention by educating patients who undergo
hemodialysis therapy in reducing their thirsty due to liquid limitation.
